Introduction

‘Transports of Delight’

The bicycle upon which you put your valued body on must be checked over after a number of rides. Have your ear a tuned to any changes in sounds coming from the bicycle. If an odd sound occurs this indicates that there is something astray on the bicycle. Study where the sound is coming from so as to gauge the seriousness of the situation. At times the sound is coming from a simple thing which can be fixed with the use of your hands and at other times it may need to be fixed when at home or in a bicycle mechanics workshop.

Questions are welcomed at the end of each point.

I as your tutor am not accountable for any wrong repairs you do or any modifications done on your bicycle.

I recommend that you have a cycle shop do your repairs. As it saves stress, time and sometimes money.

During the course of our sessions please remember the following key guidelines:

ÄWhen referring to feeling a component that has bearings, we are feeling for any rough spots, tight spots, loose parts and smoothness.

ÄAnything that is loose will have to be adjusted or replaced, but this is not true for clusters as they have a very small amount of looseness (wobble) to help with gear changes
