Thomas Hodgson wins the Racers Grade at Rabbit Island at the 2010 Lakes to Sea Ride and Race.

11th Annual…PEAK FUEL “LAKES to SEA” FUN RIDE-RACE

 February 6th 2010 Waitangi Day

This ride is open to any competent rider on any bike. Any young rider must be accompanied.

The ride is from Lake Rotoiti to Rabbit Island, beginning on the lake shore and following State Highway 63 to Top House corner turning left to Nelson via the Top House Road past Kikiwa Sub Station turning right and going up over Kerr’s Hill and over the Reay Saddle. The route then follows down the Wai-iti Valley turning right onto State Highway 6, through Wakefield and on towards Brightwater turning left off the main road at the Rutherford Memorial. Then it’s left again onto Ellis Street towards Waimea West, at the stop sign. Ride on over the bridge and follow the road around to the right at Teapot Corner onto Waimea West Road to the end of the straight and onto River Road. This is on a big left hand banked corner, you need to go straight ahead (slight right turn) onto River Road for about 1Km. Turn left onto Highway 60 near Appleby Bridge and proceed along the main highway straight through Pea Viner Corner and turn right onto Redwood Road past Seifried Estate, and down to the finish line near the roundabout at Rabbit Island.

START: The main start area will be on the foreshore at Kerr Bay Lake Rotoiti, St Arnaud, Nelson Lakes National Park.

TIME:  Sign on from 8.30am.

SOCIAL GRADE/fun riders, first time event riders to depart at 9.15am

RECREATIONAL D GRADE/fun riders to depart at 9.45am

INTERMEDIATE C GRADE/race riders to depart at 10.15am

RACERS A & B GRADE to depart at 10.30am

PRIZES for some categories & SPOT PRIZES provided by the sponsors.

RULES:

  • Safety is the number one rule.
  • No aero bars on bikes please.
  • All cycles must be in a safe condition and totally roadworthy, have your cycle serviced at your local Bike Shop before the race to be sure!
  • Obey the course marshals’ directions, they are there for your safety.
  • All traffic laws must be obeyed, Police are very likely to patrol the course.

The FINISH will be on the last straight before the Rabbit Island roundabout. Make sure you check your number in at the finish so you get allocated a finish time.

PRIZE GIVING will be at Rabbit Island Reserve at about 2.00pm. There will be a sausage sizzle and Lemonade and Beer available after the finish at the island recreation area, follow the signs.

PRE-ENTRY FEE: $25.00 per person by 4th Feb. ENTRY ON THE DAY $30.00

NO ACCOMPANYING SUPPORT VEHICLES MAY FOLLOW INDIVIDUAL RIDERS.

Support vehicles to leave prior to race start please.
